Olivia's Home Learning

Olivia shared some information about Tane Mahuta, New Zealand's largest known living kauri tree.

Look how small Olivia is compared to Tane Mahuta.

Summerland Kids on ANZAC Day

On ANZAC Day we went to the Swanson RSA parade.  We had to stand still for a long time and listen to speeches, a prayer, the national anthems of Australia and New Zealand and the Last Post.  The flags of the two countries were put up as the anthems were played.  We sang God Defend New Zealand.  At the end we got some chips and a drink.
Olivia and Al.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Monarch Butterflies

Olivia brought us Monarch Butterfly eggs at the beginning of the year.  We watched them hatch into tiny caterpillars, which ate and ate and ate.  They got fatter and fatter and then each turned into a chrysalis.  When the chrysalis was black and orange we knew the butterfly would soon hatch.  We let the butterflies fly out the window so they could lay their eggs on swan plants and the cycle could start again.
