Ambury Farm

On Wednesday the 26th of June we visited Ambury Farm to learn about farming in New Zealand. Ambury Farm Park is a regional park that is open to the public.  It's a great place to visit.  You can find more information about the park if you click here.
The photos that make up this video can be found on our school website, where they can be downloaded individually – click here.

Rosie's World

This afternoon we checked out Rosie's World. We found out –
  1. Rosie is a dairy cow - she gives us milk
  2. Cows eat lots of grass each day
  3. There are 1,000 different types of cow in the world
  4. Jersey cows are brown, are smaller than other cows and produce the best milk
  5. Cows have four stomachs
  6. Milking machines get the milk from the cow's udder so we can drink it
  7. The milk from the cows are collected by milk tankers and is taken to the dairy factory
  8. At the dairy factory milk is made into lots of different things - flavoured milk, cheese and butter
  9. There is a very clever robotic system on some farms that helps the farmer with the work on the farm
  10. Grass comes up from the cow's stomach into it's mouth and it chews it again for a minute because grass is very hard to digest
  11. Cows get scared of big things, like trucks
  12. Cows eat 70 kilograms of grass a day
  13. Milk gets pasteurized to remove bacteria - heated to 72 degrees Celsius and cooled to 3 degrees Celsius
