Jump Jam Competition

Car Wash

On Saturday the 12th of November, the Junior and Senior Jump Jam squads went to a Jump Jam competition on the North Shore. Our routine was called Car Wash.

We went on stage second. We were very nervous when we got up on stage. When the music started we had massive smiles. When our routine was finished a man in blue asked questions.

When it was prize giving Summerland came 4th and we got a trophy - the colour was gold. Then Western Heights came 1st, congratulations Western Heights! After we did our routine we were proud of ourselves that we came that far.

I went to the Waitakere Library and we saw some people writing names in Hangeul for others. There were lots of people who wanted one made but there weren't many to help. Mum decided we should help. We asked if we could help and they said we should get little Hangeul alphabet toys and then we taught people how to write their Hangeul name with those letters.

Netball Girls Show Sportsmanship

Jayda H, Caitlin, Emma, Kiani and Brianna won Sportsmanship of the year at the netball prizegiving at Te Pai courts on Sunday. They showed great Summerland Values in all their games. They won 8 games and lost 7 in the season - well done girls!

On Saturday I went to Waitemata Rugby Club for prize giving. I got a trophy for Most Improved Player for my team. Nathan is my coach and my Dad helps too. We had hotdogs and fizzy drinks and lots of lollies. It was the best day ever!

I have a certificate because I play lots of learning games. It is great on Study Ladder. My alien's age is 26. Awesome isn't it? My class is trying hard to get a high age like me. School is so cool.

Caitlin, Abigail and I went to the Junior Zoo Keeper programme in the holidays. We got to pat Burma the elephant and feed him by hand. Behind the scenes of the lion enclosure we got to see the lions and they were following us. I think they thought we were dinner!

Maui's Sun

Afterreading the Maori legend ‘Maui and the Sun’, with illustrations by CliffWhiting, we drew our own sun based on the legend. We looked carefully atthe illustrations and other examples of Maori arts and patterns and includedthem in our own design. When we were happy with our design we used warmcoloured dye and black vivid to complete our artwork.

100 Day Celebration

We celebrated 100 Days of learning with the whole Muriwai Pod on the 6th of July. Everyone worked together to create a design to represent the day with a collection of a hundred things hrought to school by their Room 21 buddies. We completed a number of '100 Day' activities with a mathematical aspect and had a shared lunch to conclude the celebration.

Helping Christchurch Girls Brigade

I am part of the 10th Waitakere Girls Brigade. We wanted to help the 29th Christchurch Girls Brigade because their meeting place at Beckenham Baptist Church, was destroyed by the earthquake.
our group decided to put some money, things and small toys in a shoebox to send down to them in Christchurch.
The first week at my Girls Brigade, I gave all my pocket money.
The second week, I gave 10 cents.
One of my best friends, Rebecca, gave heaps of stuff. She gave stickers, magnets and photo frames.
One of the older girls gave a pad of colourful paper.
We got $44 and some cents. But I don't remember how much. We also made a card and we took a photo of all of us to put on it.

Muriwai Pod at Point Erin

Room 21 are learning to write entertaining recounts. Here is our class recount about Muriwai’s trip to Pt Erin.

Fun in the Sun!

Yippee, today we get to go to Pt Erin Pools. Muriwai Pod was setting out for a relaxing day, where we could get to know each other and have fun in the sun. The bus arrived. “Awesome!” we said, “We get to travel all together in a bouncy, bendy bus.”

When we arrived we walked around the pools excitedly. The water shimmered in the sunlight and sparkled like blue diamonds. We got changed and splash, into the water we jumped. The big kids got to dive and slide into the deep, diving pool. We got to slide in the green tunnel slide. Miss Cheeseman took photos as we shot out of the tunnel and sploshed into the water. Miss Davies bombed off the high diving board… BOOM! The gigantic coloured beach ball was heaps of fun. Thanks Andy’s Dad for buying it for us.

The playground was magnificent. We could swing on the spiral tyre and dangle like monkeys on the flying fox. Hanging like a sloth on the wavy monkey bars was super fun. While we were on the playground a mammoth sized penguin arrived. He spoke to us and gave us a hug.

Sadly it was time to go. It was the best school trip ever.

Two Minutes Silence

Today everyone at Summerland Primary School stopped at 12:51pm for two minutes silence to honour the people who died in the Canterbury Earthquake 7 days ago and to show our care and concern for all the people affected.

We wrote the previous post together as part of the shared writing component of our writing programme. We are learning to write recounts that both entertain and inform our readers. We hope we 'hooked you in' with our opening statement.

World's Best Drummer at Summerland School

Suddenly the bell rang. At last it was time to get ready to go to the hall for the Dylan Elise show. We were all excited because we were going to see the best drummer ever.
First Dylan introduced himself and talked to us about beat. We got to play some drum beats with our hands and knees. We were very good!
Next Dylan played us some Jazz and Rock tunes. We could see how he played the drums with his hands and feet on a big screen. He could flip his drum sticks while still keeping the beat... AWESOME! Dylan then talked to us about the names of the different drums he was using. There was a snare drum, Mr Top Hat (that's two cymbals on a stand) and the bass drum.
Finally it was our turn to perform. We split into two groups with a drum beat and chant. Next we put the parts together to create a song. Dylan got the teachers to dance along with us. They were pretty good.
We thought Dylan was fantastic and wish he could come back to Summerland School again.
